Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola Recognition Awards

PURPOSE:
 
January 2009, the Gurrola Family and in cooperation with the Convención de Iglesias Bautistas Hispanas, have established:

in order to recognize (2) outstanding servants of God that have shown true leadership skills in our Hispanic Baptist Churches, as did the Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola.

WHO MAY BE NOMINATED FOR THE REV. CARLOS & GUADALUPE GURROLA RECOGNITION AWARDS? 
 

• Ordained Minister, active / retired
• Missionary, active/ retired
• Seminary student
• Any Church member, deacon, deaconess, or officer

CRITERIA:
 

• Accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior
• Having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit
• Receive the Scriptures as its authority in all matters of faith and practice
• Believing and promoting the Good News of forgiveness, wholeness, hope, and reconciliation through faith in Jesus Christ
• Understanding of Christian truth is in essential accord with the belief of Baptist Churches
• Evangelism / community outreach
• Planting of Missions / Churches
• Demonstrates patience, kindness and genuine Christian love
• Promoting and supporting of Missions
• Support of Missionaries
• Served as a volunteer
• Church growth
• Visiting the ill and those who are unable to attend Church
• Faithfulness to our Lord Jesus

AWARDS:
 

• Two (2) awards shall be given:
  Rev. Carlos M. Gurrola
  (1) male individual
  
  Hna. Guadalupe G. Gurrola
  (1) female individual
• Each honoree shall receive a recognition plaque
• $200.00 check for each honoree
  (to be paid from the Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola Awards ACCOUNT at Bank of America. Account maintained and monitored by Joseph Gurrola)
• Presentation to be awarded by the President of the Convención de Iglesias Bautistas Hispanas, Rev. Ricardo Hernández at the Annual Meeting.
• The presence of the (2) honorees is required at the Annual Meeting of the Convención de Iglesias Bautistas Hispanas in order to be recognized.

THE REV. CARLOS & GUADALUPE GURROLA RECOGNITION AWARDS COMMITTEE:
 
The honorable committee shall meet once a year to review applications and to select two (2) honorees.

  President of the Convención de Iglesias Bautistas Hispanas and Pastor of Iglesia Bautista de la Avenida Barrington
• Rev. César Mascareñas
  Retired Baptist Minister, living at Atherton Baptist Homes, Advisor of the Spanish-American Baptist Seminary Alumni & Friends. Minister in charge at the following funerals: Rev. Carlos M. Gurrola, Hna. Guadalupe G. Gurrola and Raquel Gurrola
• Mr. Joseph Gurrola
  Grandson of Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola. Currently assisting the Hispanic Department at the First Baptist Church – Lompoc, CA., and Secretary of the Spanish-American Baptist Seminary Alumni & Friends organization
• Mr. Mateo Gurrola
  Son of Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola. Retired school teacher, and member of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch, CA pastored by the Rev. Dudley Ruthford
• Mrs. Dora Gurrola
  Daugther-in-law of Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola. Member of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Porter Ranch, CA pastored by the Rev. Dudley Ruthford
• Mr. Chuck Cota
  Nephew of Rev. Carlos & Guadalupe Gurrola. Member of the Valley Community Church in El Monte, CA pastored by the Rev. Gary & Teri Clouse
• Mrs. Delia Velderrain-Perez
  Retired employee of the State of California, currently living at Atherton Baptist Homes, Advisor of the Spanish-American Baptist Seminary Alumni & Friends organization, and friend of the Gurrola Family
• Mrs. Ramona J. Cabrera
  Translator for the Lompoc School District, former Member of Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Lompoc, currently Member of the First Baptist Church of Lompoc - Hispanic Department / Board Member and friend of the Gurrola Family.
• Mr. Hector M. Gonzalez
  Former 1st Hispanic President of the American Baptist Churches – USA from 1994-1995. Currently the National Hispanic Counselor in the Office of the General Secretary of the American Baptist Churches – USA. He is the National representative of the Christian Community Credit Union. Mr. Gonzalez serves as a Trustee member of the American Baptist Homes of the West. He is also a part of the Baptist World Alliance Council. Currently residing in Scottsdale, Arizona and a member of the Monte Vista First Baptist Church – Phoenix, Arizona.

• 1-5 pages, typed, double spaced letter about the recipient. You may want to include educational background, Churches served, honors / awards and the reasons why you think the recipient should be awarded this honor. You may submit this in English or Spanish.
• Any other documents (copies) that would be helpful to the committee.
